  • Avoid jargon and language that could be confusing to others who aren\’t in your industry.
  • Show authenticity with your word choice and setting the tone.
  • Record high-quality video to build credibility with your following.

Finally, let’s dive into your options for posting video content on Instagram! There are many different options to accommodate different durations, styles, and types of video. As of right now, there are 5 options for posting video content on Instagram:

  • Instagram Stories
    • When you open your Instagram account, you’ll notice a horizontal line of circles with the profile pictures and handles of the accounts that you follow. These stories allow for up to 15 seconds of video that can be quickly scrolled through by the consumer. They last for 24 hours from the time you post the content, and you can even decorate and dress up your posts with stickers and engagement techniques like questions and polls.
      • To save posts longer than 24hours, you can incorporate them into a highlight. Highlights show up as a horizontal line of circles beneath your profile picture, personal bio, and contact information. By pressing the circle with a ‘+’ in it, you can take your old stories and implement them into your personally curated highlight.
  • Instagram Reels
    • Another form of a short video, Reels allow you to make creative and fun content to catch the eye of the consumer. Found in the Discover and Reel tabs on the bottom of the page, depicted as a magnifying glass and a clapperboard respectively, you can find these 15-second videos curated to your Instagram viewing habits and preferences. If you are familiar with TikTok, the format is very similar. This feature allows for more editing than stories, as you can stitch video together, implement video effects and filters provided by Instagram, and embed a wider variety of sounds into your content. This is a great idea for original content to promote campaigns!
  • IGTV (Instagram TV)
    • If you were looking for a way to post longer videos on Instagram, here it is! IGTV allows for videos between15 seconds and 10 minutes long (or 60 minutes if you are verified with a blue checkmark on your profile). This is a good way to post video content for casual consumer viewing rather than as a post that will show up in somebody’s feed. This is a good way to quickly share some video content without having to strategize and post around it.
  • A Plain Old Instagram Post
    • It may be classic but never forget that you can post videos up to 1-minute long on your account. These videos will show up on the feed in your follower’s accounts and allow you to write a caption and add hashtags to enhance the post. These video posts often generate more engagement in relation to photo posts, but a combination of both photos and videos should be posted to your account.
  • Instagram Live
    • Instagram Live is a way to share live video with your followers through your mobile device. Followers will be notified when you go live through the same area as Instagram Stories and are able to interact with you by sending messages in real-time. You can even invite somebody else to go live with you! This is a great option for holding live virtual events, a great way to increase engagement while we are all physically distant.
